Trouble on the Island Base

Trouble on the Island Base

English · level A2 · for teen · 3 min read

Jack finds the base's water supply is gone.

Jack walked fast to the water tank. He looked inside and saw it was empty. He called Mira, Tom, and Ivy to come quickly. Jack said, 'The water is gone. We have a problem.'

Mira looked worried and said, 'We need to find water soon.' Tom checked the old pipes near the tank. He said, 'Maybe there is a leak or a break.' Ivy went up the tree to look around the island.

Jack spoke loudly, 'We cannot stay here without water.' Mira said, 'We must check the maps for water sources.' Tom said, 'I will try to fix the system if I find the break.' Ivy shouted down, 'I see the jungle and the sea clearly from here.'

Mira checks the maps to find the water source.

Mira sat down at the wooden table and opened the big map. Jack watched her with hope in his eyes. The map was old but clear enough to read. Mira pointed at the green marks on the map.

"This island has a few water spots," Mira explained. "We need to find the closest fresh spring or a small stream." Jack nodded and leaned in to look more closely. The map showed a hidden path near the jungle edge.

"I think the water source is here," Mira said with confidence. "It is near the hill where the big tree stands." Jack smiled, feeling a new hope. "Good work, Mira. We start looking there now."

Tom tries to fix the water system but it breaks more.

Tom looks at the broken pipes with a frown. He holds a wrench in his hand and studies the problem carefully. The water system is old and parts are rusty and weak. Tom feels the pressure but knows he must fix it soon.

He tries to repair the first pipe with some metal tape. Suddenly, water sprays out even stronger than before. The little leaks turn into bigger ones in a moment. Tom wipes his face and sighs, feeling frustrated and tired.

He takes a deep breath and checks other parts of the system. Some pipes are cracked and some valves do not move well. Tom wishes for better tools and stronger pipes for the base. He knows he must find another way to solve the water problem.

Ivy spots a hidden rain collector behind trees.

Ivy climbed the tall palm tree near the shore. She looked around carefully with her sharp eyes. Suddenly, her face showed surprise. "Look here!" she shouted down. "There is something behind that big group of trees."

Jack, Mira, and Tom ran towards where Ivy pointed. They walked slowly through the thick forest. Soon, they found a large rain collector hidden behind the leaves. The collector was made of big leaves and old wood. Water was dripping slowly into the large container below.

Mira smiled and said, "This is our secret water!" Jack looked very happy after days of worry. Tom said, "We can use this water for sure now." All felt a wave of relief wash over them. They knew they were safe at last.

The crew collects fresh water and feels safe again.

Jack smiles when he sees the water collector is full. Mira nods and says, "We can fill our barrels now." Tom brings the empty barrels with a big smile. Ivy points to the trees and says, "This place is a good find."

The crew works together to carry water to their base. Jack fills the large pots and checks the water for safety. Mira cleans the barrels while Tom stirs pots happily. Ivy keeps watch to make sure no one surprises them.

Soon, they have enough fresh water for everyone. Jack says, "We are safe because of this water." Mira smiles and says, "We can rest easy tonight." Tom and Ivy laugh softly, feeling calm and happy.
